Problem; "Files Tab and File Not Found"

Have a question about Bullhorn's HTTP based APIs? You've found the right place.

API Update [posted on December 13, 2012]:

This version of the Bullhorn APIs should no longer be used.

All new work should be done using Bullhorn's REST or Web Services APIs. For more information please visit: http://developer.bullhorn.com/documentation

Bullhorn REST API provides a simpler and faster way for developers to build applications that interact with the Bullhorn platform and is used by Bullhorn Inc. to develop features of the Bullhorn ATS/CRM application.

Of the BullhornSTAFFING HTTP API interfaces listed below, our analysis shows that the following are most commonly used by developers:

Resume Parsing API
Published Job Data (XML)
The interface to these will continue to work as is because Bullhorn will replace the back end to use REST API. The URLs for these 2 specific APIs may change in the 2nd half of 2013; developers may require to update their applications to use the new URLs.

Problem; "Files Tab and File Not Found"

Post by dmorris » Mon Jan 25, 2010 4:09 pm

We're using the Bullhorn "Legacy API" to upload and attach a candidate's resume document, when they provide it during the act of applying for a specific job on our web site. The file appears to upload ok from the API, and it appears in Bullhorn under the candidate's Files Tab with the correct size. However, when you click on it to retrieve it in Bullhorn you get an error indicating "File not found".

We've confirmed that the same thing happens if you submit the file through this form:

http://www.bullhorn.com/bullhornstaffin ... leTest.cfm

which is Bullhorn's demonstration of how it should be done. So, either something on the above mentioned Bullhorn sample page isn't right, or something in their API isn't working like it should on the backend. When we attach a file from the bullhorn application itself, it works as expected.

dmorris,

Please use

http://sl1api.bullhornstaffing.com/bull ... leTest.cfm

instead of

http://www.bullhorn.com/bullhornstaffin ... leTest.cfm

Your company has a slightly different configuration that requires this URL.

We are having the same problem with posting files for client with PLID=3554. Please verify that the Bullhorn config is the issue for this client as well.

I am not comfortable changing the URL for submissions since this works well for the other 40+ clients who use our job board to accept applications into Bullhorn. Also, it is clearly stated elsewhere in the support forum that best practice is to use the correct URL, not link directly to a single server.

This client seems to be an anomaly for us. What is different in their Bullhorn configuration that is causing the uploaded files not to work? Why can't this be changed in Bullhorn so that it works as expected?

Any help in explaining this situation to the client would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Victoria

Victoria,

A while back, our infrastructure was changed to allow segmentation of the client base for security, performance and uptime reasons, some of the changes that resulted from this were some URLs changing, including the API calls. This does not become an obvious problem, unless the client is using the file attachment API, which absolutely must use the correct URL or file not found errors can occur.

Your current client (ID 3554) is on the infrastructure that requires the client to use the new URL:

http://sl1api.bullhornstaffing.com/bull ... leTest.cfm

So how do we know which clients this effects? We'd prefer not to have to reactively wait for clients to complain that the files aren't uploading since that leads to unhappy clients and work under duress...

Maybe a better question: can we send all file uploads to this URL instead of the other? Will this work for all clients so we don't have to support an exception?

Victoria,

Currently, we have 3 possible domains, the URL path after the domain will not change. Each client is told the correct domain during their implementation or can receive by contacting Bullhorn Support or by posting to this forum. One URL will not work for all clients.

One more question... we have clients that have multiple PLIDs. Are we going to have to vary the API URL by client or by PLID? (e.g. can a client with three PLIDs have three different API URLs?) Thanks!

Victoria,

If the client has 3 PLIDs, they should all use the same URL, but I can check for sure if you like, what are the PLIDs?

Please verify these all use the same API URL:

2590, 3293, 3141

Thanks

Hi Andrew,

This week, after the "infrastructure maintenance", our client started to have that same problem with file not found.
I've tried uploading at both http://sl1api.bullhornstaffing.com/bull ... leTest.cfm and http://www.bullhornstaffing.com/bullhor ... leTest.cfm and had same error at both places. I had that error every time I've tried although the client said the problem is intermittent and they had some successful uploads this week as well as broken ones.
Until last week our client used http://www.bullhornstaffing.com/bullhornstaffing/api/... successfully for quite some time. Client's PLID is 2419. Could you tell me please if anything has changed for that client? What domain is correct one for file uploads?

Thank you,

Viktor,

For that PLID (2419), http://www.bullhornstaffing.com/Bullhor ... ng/API/... is the correct URL.

I just tested and it should be working with no issues, are you still seeing issues?

Hmm, yes and no.

Last week I have tried to attach tree times to same user with ID = 5043 using http://www.bullhornstaffing.com/Bullhor ... leTest.cfm

All three attemts ended with "file not found" error.
Today I went back to that candidate and two out of three now (10:00pm Pacific Time) shows normally. But third still shows "file not found" - that's the one with "Date Added" = "4/9/2010 9:21:00 PM". I have attempted couple more uploads today, both are OK. So something is , well, not behaving. It's not the file itself - I have it uploaded three times now, and it shows OK two times out of three. I hope you can make something out of all this information, Andrew. Please let us know what you find.

Thank you very much,
