How to attach candidates to a job - 02399195

Post by scdk » Fri Mar 29, 2013 12:02 pm

We are using the REST API to output all jobs within the system which is working fine, but are struggling to get our heads around how to let someone apply for a job via our website.

In the API there seems to be 'Candidate' and a 'Job Submission', but to bind a candidate to a job only 'Job Submission' seems to have a link.

Could you please let me know what process we need to link an applicant to a job.

I.e.
1. on a job detail page there will be an 'apply for this job' link
2. clicking this will take them to a form to complete their name, address, email, telephone, upload CV etc
3. what do we use in the API to submit this application to the job?

Thanks

Hello scdk - sorry this isn't related to your question, but you said in your post that you're using the REST API to output all jobs. Can I ask, are you using event subscriptions to achieve this? Have you been able to get them working?

Thanks!

Netizn: No, we're unfortunately not. As it's working right now we're scanning all the job orders with the "query" REST command, and synchronizing them with our local database (as we're able to provide quicker/better searches now that the REST API doesn't allow LIKE or wildcards).

The general way the querying works is by follows:

1. Call a query on all job orders (id > 0)
2. If the response has 50 entries, add 50 to the offset, and go to step 1., if it has less than 50, go to step 3
3. We assume that we've now successfully gotten all the job orders

We also have 2 cron jobs. One that collects basic information for the searches (title/location/category/open state/public state) and another one, that runs less frequently, that collects everything (title/location/category/open state/public state/owners/descriptions/etc. etc. etc.)

Now, It’s really easy for startup job candidates to visit this site and collect useful and informational tips. They will improve the confidence of a candidate.

Hello scdk,

First you would want to make sure your code checks to see if the Candidate exists, if it doesn't it should create a Candidate record. Then create a job submission.

Page 166 in our REST documentation goes over Job Submissions:
http://developer.bullhorn.com/sites/def ... PI_0_2.pdf

Candidate and JobOrder on the submission would refer to the Candidate applying and the Job Order in the Bullhorn system that the candidate is applying to.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
