Ability to set an address' country using its ISO code

Post by woutdegeyter » Fri Nov 30, 2018 6:50 am

Hi,

At the moment we can only set the country by using the technical ID of that country.
This in essence is fine, but in the case of high-volume API integration this is not that efficient.

More specifically It will mean that - in order for us to be sure that we're always providing a valid country - we will need to do one additional API call (to get the technical ID of a country based on its name) before every record creation/update which includes an address.

What many of our partner APIs support is to allow setting a country based on the country's ISO code (and they actually regularly allow it on top of the ability to set it based on a technical ID). A country's ISO code is unambiguously defined, language independent, stable, ... so there are no big risks in supporting this as well.

Until this is possible our integration will only support reading the country values (and not writing to them) as I don't consider doing an additional API call for almost every creation/update to be worth it.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Kind regards,
Wout

Hi Wout,

This is Dave with Bullhorn's API Support Team. I appreciate your patience

Our system does support use of the ISO code, but only in a manner to pull the country ID. http://bullhorn.github.io/rest-api-docs ... ml#country

As you have seen, the ID must be used when adding or updating an entity record.

What you suggest does make sense, and I can submit this as a functionality request to use the ISO code as an alternative to the specific IDs we currently utilize. In the meantime you would need to employ an extra call to pull the country ID to utilize API write capabilities.

Please let us know if you do have any additional questions.
Best Regards,
Dave Portnoy

Dave,

Thanks for your feedback.

It would be great if you could indeed submit this as a feature request internally.

Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Wout
