Restore the back up

Post by datamigrationhelp » Thu Jun 16, 2016 2:05 am

Hey Guys,

I was able to extract the zip file and there were like 7 .safe.old files and one .SAFE file , I converted that into .BAK and while trying to restore that file, it's throwing this error
"Unable to create restore plan due to break in the LSN chain"

Does that mean The back up was not Full and only differential

Thanks

Good Afternoon datamigrationhelp,

The error does not necessarily mean the back up was not Full and only differential. There are a lot of possible causes for this particular error. One potential solution, which was repeated on several sites, is linked below.

http://www.sanssql.com/2013/08/unable-t ... ue-to.html

This is also evidently a known issue for SQL Server 2012, and a workaround is listed on the Microsoft support site as follows.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3065060

Please let me know if either of these resolves your particular error.
