Creating an active submission Field on job record

Have a question and trying to figure out the most efficient way to do this without needing a service running, may not have an option.

The bullhorn submission fields that are shown in the list view have a inherit gap in functionality. On the list view Internal submission is an aggregate of all candidates not submitted to client or rejected. I would like to add a field to the list view that incorporates AM submission count, which is a internal submission status.

The only way I can think to do this is to add a custom field on the job record, pull a count of subs in a certain status into that field, it would need to run on service so it would be somewhat consistently updated. Has anyone done anything similar or have some examples they might be willing to share?
